Alyx MacDonald is the Director of Environment and Natural Resources at The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM). In this role, he provides strategic leadership for environmental stewardship and natural resource management initiatives, supporting sustainable practices and advancing the environmental priorities of Mi’kmaw communities.

Alyx brings over a decade of experience in environmental project delivery and community-based programming. Since joining CMM in 2014 as a technician following his graduation from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Applied Science, he has advanced through roles including Project Lead, Operations Supervisor, and Manager of Environmental Projects. His career reflects a strong commitment to capacity-building, program development, and collaborative partnerships.

He combines practical, solutions-focused execution with strong strategic thinking and an ability to connect immediate actions to long-term outcomes. His leadership style emphasizes collaboration, sustainability, and working in alignment with Mi’kmaw knowledge and stewardship practices.

Born, raised, and residing in Central Nova Scotia, Alyx developed an early appreciation for ecological land management through his upbringing in a forestry family, an influence that continues to shape his work today.

Outside of work, Alyx can often be found in the woods, having a laugh, or searching for old nature books and field guides.
