Winter Sack

Interim Senior Director of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management

Winter is a Mi’kmaq woman and band member from the Sipekne’katik First Nation. As a child, she grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and after a few years there her family returned to her home community so she could complete her education in Nova Scotia, surrounded by family and just as importantly her culture and community.

Winter has extensive experience in many different industries ranging in real estate to personal entrepreneurship. After many years working externally from her community, she felt a need to shift focus and bring her knowledge and expertise to help enhance her community and other Mi’kmaq communities.

Beginning her work in 2018 with The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq, Guided by the teachings of Netukulimk, to take only what is needed and waste nothing to ensure there is something left for future generations, she has been able to expand her knowledge to Fisheries Management and Aquatic Resources during her tenure with the Mi’kmaw Conservation Group while using her past experience to bring valuable insight to the department.
